Building Classrooms Building Futures: Classrooms nearing completion

Back in October 2024 Think Malawi launched it's campaign, Building Classrooms Building Futures and now we are proud to announce that the 2 classrooms it funded are nearing completion.

These classrooms are being constructed at Mthawira Primary School in Blantyre District of Southern Malawi with over £15,000 raised for the project from various channels.

These classrooms were required because there was 1,413 students at the school but only enough indoor space for 922 children. The children taught outdoors had significant disadvantages including dust, distractions and often extreme weather conditions which made learning difficult.

The building of the classrooms which will provide safe teaching spaces for 120 children, and thousands more, is now nearing its completion. As seen below, the majority of the construction is completed. A local company alongside the local community assisted in the building process highlighting the community engagement in this project.

Alongside the construction of the classrooms, desks have been provided allowing for proper learning spaces for the students to sit and have classes and they will be installed when the finishing touches have been completed in the classrooms.

The building process has not been without difficulties. Heavy rains delayed the building process by a month. Moreover, the transportation of the desks was also delayed by this weather due the impact of this on the roads.

Think Malawi would like to thank Umodzi Youth Organisation (UYO), our Malawian NGO partner, who oversaw the project alongside the local community who invested time and effort in the construction of the classrooms.
